WALLS AND MENHIRS

1981
I 2025

I started this series with the unfinished drawings of a previous series, and I painted new oil paintings, all of which were inspired by the remains of ancient South American civilizations, mainly from Bolivia and Peru. In addition, the stone testimonies of primitive European civilizations, which created their own dolmens and menhirs such as the ones that can be found in the English region of Stonehenge.

The stones that I drew before as a part of our natural universe are here relating to ancestral ceremonial practices that left testimony of their existence in walls, caves and menhirs. Such stones were the chosen places for man to leave signs and symbols and thus initiating the path to Culture and Art.

THE GARDEN. chalk and ink on paper. 22x25 cm. 1986.
